6-Day Umbwe Route Trek – Kilimanjaro Climb

The 6-Day Umbwe Route is considered the most difficult and steepest route on Mount Kilimanjaro. This route is ideal for experienced hikers and adventurous climbers looking for a challenging and less crowded trekking experience. The trail ascends rapidly through dense rainforest, narrow ridges, moorland, alpine desert, and glacier zones before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.

Anchor 1

Day 1

Arrival in Arusha

· Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport

· Meet and greet by our professional mountain team

· Transfer to your hotel in Arusha for relaxation

· Evening briefing with your mountain guide about the trek, safety procedures, altitude awareness, and equipment preparation

· Full gear inspection to ensure all trekking equipment is suitable for the climb

· Opportunity to rent missing trekking gear if needed

· Relax and prepare mentally and physically for the upcoming adventure on Mount Kilimanjaro

Day 2

Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp

· After breakfast, drive from Arusha to Umbwe Gate located on the southern side of Mount Kilimanjaro

· Complete registration and park permit formalities at the gate

· Meet porters and trekking crew before beginning the climb

· Start trekking through thick rainforest with lush vegetation, giant trees, and tropical wildlife

· The trail is steep and narrow, making the Umbwe Route one of the most physically demanding routes from the very beginning

· Enjoy beautiful forest scenery with chances to spot monkeys and colorful birds

· Stop for lunch along the trail before continuing to Umbwe Camp

· Arrive at camp in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight stay

Altitude: 1,800m to 2,850m Hiking Time: 5–7 Hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Umbwe Camp

Day 3

Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

· Continue trekking through forest into moorland zone

· Enjoy spectacular views and dramatic ridges

· Pass through valleys and rocky terrain

· Arrive at Barranco Camp beneath the famous Barranco Wall

Altitude: 2,850m to 3,900m Hiking Time: 4–6 Hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Barranco Camp

Day 4

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

· Climb the Barranco Wall

· Trek through ridges and valleys with scenic views

· Continue toward Karanga Valley

· Arrive at Karanga Camp for rest and acclimatization

Altitude: 3,900m to 4,035m Hiking Time: 4–5 Hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Karanga Camp

Day 5

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

· Gradual ascent through alpine desert terrain

· Reach Barafu Camp, the final base camp before summit attempt

· Early dinner and rest before midnight climb

Altitude: 4,035m to 4,640m Hiking Time: 3–4 Hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Barafu Camp

Day 6

Summit Day & Descent to Mweka Camp

· Midnight summit attempt begins

· Trek to Stella Point and continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)

· Celebrate at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro

· Descend to Barafu Camp for short rest

· Continue descending to Mweka Camp

Altitude: 4,640m to 5,895m to 3,100m Hiking Time: 10–14 Hours Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Accommodation: Mweka Camp

Day 7

Mweka Camp to Arusha

· Final descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate

· Receive summit certificates

· Transfer back to Arusha

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch Accommodation: Hotel (Optional)

To reserve the trip, we require 50 % down payment by bank transfer or credit card. The 2nd payment of 50 % has to be paid 3 months before the start of the trip.

 

Bank Transfer costs have to be covered by the payee. 3% credit card processing fee will apply to all card payments.
